On Christmas Eve day, many residents, volunteers, and staff members from the New Life Foundation joined the annual Sports Day festivities held in our village. The festivities included a parade, sports competitions, and a fundraising drive for the local primary school. To collect donations, booths with ‘money trees’ were set up around the village where residents could register their name, affix a 20, 50, 100, 500, or 1000 Baht note to a sharpened stick and affix it into the ‘money tree’. To start off the day, The New Life Foundation participated in the village’s parade, which wound itself, with music and dancing, from the center of town to the sports pitch at the primary school. After the parade and a few opening speeches by village leaders, our football (soccer) team played in an exhibition match against the village’s own team. Although we were a new team, The New Life Foundation won in an exciting shootout after tying 1-1 during normal play.
